Ideas are only the beginning.

Praxis is a student-led research initiative at LUMS built around a simple idea: meaningful change begins with meaningful questions. We create spaces for students to investigate issues that matter, engage with perspectives that are often overlooked, and take ideas beyond the classroom.

02 / WHAT IS PRAXIS?

Research should not stop at the page.

Praxis exists to cultivate a stronger culture of student-led research at LUMS. We move beyond theory and into the field, pairing what we learn from people and communities with rigorous research and analysis.

Our work brings together primary research, meta-research, dialogue, and public engagement. We believe research becomes more valuable when it is grounded in reality, attentive to different perspectives, and capable of informing the conversations and decisions that shape our world.

03 / WHY PRAXIS

Because questions deserve somewhere to go.

University gives us countless opportunities to learn what is already known. Praxis is a space to ask what remains unanswered.

We believe students should be able to pursue questions that do not fit neatly inside a syllabus — questions about society, institutions, culture, policy, technology, and the experiences of people around us.

Praxis was created to turn that curiosity into something more: investigation, conversation, evidence, and eventually action.

04 / HOW WE WORK

From questions to action.

Ask.

Every project begins with a question. We look for problems worth investigating and perspectives worth hearing.

Investigate.

We combine primary research with existing scholarship and evidence to understand problems beyond their surface.

Engage.

Research should enter the world. We create conversations through publications, events, discussion, and collaboration.

Act.

The goal is not research for research's sake. We seek to turn findings into insight, awareness, and meaningful action.

Where it began.

Praxis began with a question of its own: what could student research look like if students had the space to pursue questions beyond the classroom and connect ideas with the realities around them?

FOUNDER 01

Zawar Hussain

Co-Founder

Zawar Hussain is a LUMS law student with interests spanning legal research, writing, public discourse, and questions at the intersection of law and society. His work across student-led academic and advocacy spaces reflects an interest in research, dialogue, and public engagement.

As a co-founder of Praxis, he is part of the effort to build a student-led research culture where questions can move from discussion to investigation and, ultimately, action.

Maryam Zulfiqar

Co-Founder

Maryam Zulfiqar is one of the two students behind the founding of Praxis. Her role in establishing the initiative forms part of its early story: building a space where students can pursue questions beyond the classroom, work collaboratively, and turn curiosity into meaningful research and dialogue.
