Praxis is a student-led research initiative at LUMS built on a simple belief: meaningful change begins with meaningful questions. We create spaces for students to investigate issues that matter, move beyond the classroom, and engage with the realities and perspectives that shape them. By grounding our work in lived experiences and voices that are often overlooked, we seek to make research more attentive, relevant, and connected to the world around us.
Our work brings together primary research, meta-research, dialogue, and public engagement to cultivate a stronger culture of student-led inquiry at LUMS. We pair rigorous research and analysis with conversations and experiences from people and communities, turning questions into knowledge, knowledge into insight, and insight into conversations that can inform how we understand and respond to the world.
University gives us countless opportunities to learn what is already known; Praxis creates space for what remains unanswered—questions that emerge from society, institutions, culture, policy, technology, and the experiences of people around us. Students should have the freedom to pursue these questions with wonder and rigour, and Praxis makes exactly that possible. You can work alongside other passionate individuals to turn your curiousities into investigation, conversation, and evidence, ultimately taking what you discover beyond the classroom. Because learning should not only help us understand the world as it is, but give us the tools to ask what it could be.
Every project begins with a question. We look for problems worth investigating and perspectives worth hearing.

Praxis is the daughter of “shikwa” born of grief.
It came to life upon realizing that inside large buildings and air-conditioned rooms, a few voices speak in the name of others to shut down the rest.
Inside white papers filled with dense black lines, line by line, word by word, lived real lives, always taught, meant only to be taught, never to be seen or heard.
Praxis was formed as a primary and meta-research society to show that these pages hide reality.
Reality does not need anyone, not even Praxis, to reveal itself; it can speak for itself. Praxis is simply the endeavour to reflect that.
Zawar is a senior year law student with interest in criminal law and fiction .
As a co-founder of Praxis, he is part of the effort to build a student-led research culture where questions can move from discussion to investigation and, ultimately, action.
Maryam is a senior year student, majoring in accounting and finance, with an interest in literature and public policy. Her role in establishing the initiative forms part of its early story: building a space where students can pursue questions beyond the classroom, work collaboratively, and turn curiosity into meaningful research and dialogue.
For the students of LUMS, Praxis Applications open after the Society Orientation for the particular academic year has taken place. Interested members can apply online and selected applicants will be called for in-person interviews
